BlogDay!
The purpose of this post is to join bloggers across the world as we find and recommend new blogs that are perhaps different in culture, point of view or attitude. I love this idea for several reasons… It’s a chance to celebrate diversity and it serves as yet another way to connect people. I’ve attempted to choose blogs that present different points of view that my commenters may not necessarily be familiar with or even agree with. It was difficult to narrow down my choices, so I chose 3 that share a common thread of gender identity issues.
I’m not sure how or when I found this blog, but it’s definitely on my list of faves. Hugo is a self described “progressive Anabaptist/Episcopalian Democrat (but with a sense of humor), a community college history and gender studies professor, animal right activist, ENFP Gemini, avid marathoner, aspiring ultra-runner, die-hard political junkie, and (still) the proud father of the most amazing chinchilla on God’s green earth.” Hugo is a CA guy, raised in beautiful Carmel (jealous!). To me, he is a refreshing redefinition of pro feminisim – all the good things about it that tend to get overlooked. But most of all I adore how he engages all people of different opinions respectfully. Always some new and interesting topic at Hugo’s place!
This is the blog of a 28 year old Christian female who identifies herself as ex-gay, for lack of a better term! I identify her as an overcomer - like all Christians. But the fact is she lived as gay for 9 years before pursuing a different path (reluctantly, as she puts it!) when she became a Christian. Since then, she has experienced some major shifts, including in attractions to men, and she is now married. I really dig that she doesn’t pledge allegiance to ex-gay ministries, meaning that for her life is more about Jesus Christ than it is about healing and reparative therapy. Her voice is a controversial one, especially among the gay community, but she is representative of many and I’m thankful she shares herself online.
This is the blog of my friend Brian (who will occasionally comment here!). Brian is a gay man living in the Seattle area. We have some extremely loose ties in the common area of having a Church of Christ background. But nowadays, Brian sees life from an atheist point of view. I have to put a warning label on Brian’s blog! If Christian bashing, anger-filled rants and foul language offend your sensibilities, this is not a blog for you! For (spiritually) mature audiences only! But for me, I like doing life with Brian. Because he is HIV positive and has suffered the condemnation of family and church and even alienation among some in the gay community, Brian has no one to impress and is very real. That’s a state some of us Christians may never reach. Brian always tests my limits, and I keep coming back for more!!!

Why in the WORLD you would you pick my blog to route good Christian folk to is beyond me…. WAY beyond me…. but I’m honored. I enjoyed your disclaimer before routing people to it; I like to say that it’s not for the faint of heart or the morally insecure.
